Sequential State – the comics criticism archive of Alex Hoffman

2016 Year in Review

I did a year in review for Sequential State in the year 2014 & 2015, so this is yet another blogging tradition for Sequential State. Consider this your stakeholder’s meeting minutes.

Some quick metrics for the interested:

Books Reviewed: 70
Interviews: 3
Con Reports: 2
Audio & Video Content: 5
Followers:  1317

Shows: I made it to TCAF, SPACE, and CXC this year. TCAF felt a little disconnected from previous because of my decision to stay at an Air BnB instead of at the hotel like previous years, but I found better comics, connected with other comics critics, and really enjoyed myself.

I am hoping to get to SPACE, SPX, GenghisCon, and CXC in 2017. Getting to shows this year is going to be a little more challenging for personal reasons. CXC was the surprise show of the year, I absolutely loved it and hope to go every year.

Writing: Overall I wrote less this year than I did in 2015. Part of that was a lot of upheaval in my personal life, some of which was good and some of which was not so much. Making excuses is lame. More writing in 2017.

Podcast: I am happy with the podcasting we did in 2015. Sadly, because of changes in Nick’s schedule, the Sequential Statement podcast is on indefinite hiatus. The current episodes will remain on the Sequential Statement soundcloud, and the rest are archived.

Patreon: I started a Patreon! If you like the work I’m doing here, please consider supporting it. Your support would mean a lot to me.

2016 was a hard year, and there isn’t much more I can say than that. I have faith that 2017 will also be hard. There is a lot of work to be done and a long fight ahead. But I am encouraged by you, dear reader, for being a part of this small community, and for supporting small press artists and comics. I’m very happy that you decided to subscribe or to follow the blog.

Let’s talk soon.
